In short

Use 16:9 at 1920×1080 for YouTube, and vertical 9:16 for Shorts, TikTok and Reels. Shorts can be up to 3 minutes, every TikTok creator can post 3-minute videos and Instagram accepts reels from 1.91:1 to 9:16. Meta's ads guide lists 4:5 at 1440×1800 for Facebook feed video ads, and LinkedIn takes 1:2.4 to 2.4:1 up to 15 minutes and 5 GB. We checked each figure on the platform's own pages in October 2026.

FAQ

Questions about the Social Media Video Size Guide

What is the best video size for social media?
There isn't one size for every platform. Vertical 9:16 at 1080×1920 suits Shorts, TikTok, Reels and Pinterest; 16:9 at 1920×1080 suits YouTube; Meta's ads guide lists 4:5 for Facebook feed video ads. Check the table for the placement you're posting to.
How long can a YouTube Short be?
Up to three minutes, in a square or vertical aspect ratio, according to YouTube Help. A wider video, such as 16:9, counts as a regular long video.
What size should an Instagram Reel be?
Instagram accepts reels between 1.91:1 and 9:16, at least 720 pixels and 30 fps. Vertical 9:16 fills the screen. You can record clips adding up to 20 minutes, but reels over 3 minutes aren't recommended to new audiences.
What is the maximum video length on X?
Accounts without a paid subscription can upload videos up to 140 seconds and 512 MB, per X's help center. Paid plans allow longer and larger uploads.
Where do these figures come from, and when were they checked?
From each platform's own help or ads pages, checked in October 2026: YouTube Help, TikTok Ads Help and TikTok for Developers, Instagram Help, Meta's Ads Guide, LinkedIn Help, X Help and Pinterest Help. Each row in the table links to its source. Limits change, so check the link before a big upload.
Can I make vertical videos for these platforms?
Yes. QuickVeed makes UGC-style video ads, AI avatar videos and AI-generated clips you can post to these platforms, and its subtitles tool adds captions.
