Google Business Profile Video Requirements (2026)

Google's own rules for Business Profile videos (30 seconds, 75 MB, 720p), what third-party tests found, the separate rules for verifying a business with a video recording, and video ideas for local businesses.

Google Business Profile Video Requirements (2026)

Google Business Profile videos can be up to 30 seconds long and 75 MB, at 720p or higher, according to Google's Business Profile help centre. Photos are JPG or PNG between 10 KB and 5 MB. New photos and videos can take 24 to 48 hours to appear, and nothing shows until the profile is verified.

Verifying a business with a video recording is a different thing with different rules: one unedited recording of at least 30 seconds, filmed live on your phone. Both are below, with Google's own figures checked on 1 November 2026, what third-party tests found, and video ideas that fit in 30 seconds. More platforms are in our video specs by platform.

The short answer

Videos you add to a Google Business Profile: up to 30 seconds, up to 75 MB, 720p or higher. Photos: JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB, 720×720 pixels recommended, 250×250 minimum. Uploads are reviewed and can take 24 to 48 hours to show. For video verification, Google wants one live, unedited recording of at least 30 seconds, made on your phone through your Business Profile, showing where you are, that the business exists and that you manage it.

Key takeaways

  • Profile videos: up to 30 seconds, up to 75 MB, 720p or higher (Google Business Profile Help, checked 1 November 2026).
  • Google publishes no aspect ratio or file format for profile videos; MP4 with H.264 is the safe export.
  • Third-party tests (Whitespark in 2023, BrightLocal) got videos of 1:30 and 1:52 to upload, but Google's limit is still 30 seconds; don't plan around the exceptions.
  • Verification videos are the opposite: at least 30 seconds, one continuous unedited take, recorded live on a phone.
  • Media appears only after the profile is verified, and reviews of new uploads can take 24 to 48 hours.

What are the video requirements for Google Business Profile?

Google's help page on Business Profile photos and videos gives three requirements for videos and four for photos:

VideoPhoto
LengthUp to 30 secondsNot applicable
File sizeUp to 75 MB10 KB to 5 MB
Resolution720p or higher720×720 px recommended, 250×250 px minimum
FormatNot stated (MP4 with H.264 is the safe choice)JPG or PNG
QualityNot statedIn focus, well lit, no heavy filters or alterations

Google reviews every upload against its photo and video policies. It says new media can take 24 to 48 hours to show on your profile, that pending items aren't visible to customers, and that photos and videos appear on Google only after the profile is verified. Customers can add their own photos and videos too.

75 MB over 30 seconds averages 20 Mbps, which is plenty for 1080p. 4K recordings are often recorded at higher bitrates, so a 30-second 4K clip can be over the limit; check yours with the free video bitrate calculator.

Can a Google Business Profile video be longer than 30 seconds?

Officially, no. Google's limit is 30 seconds. Some practitioners have still got longer videos through: Whitespark's Darren Shaw reported in July 2023 that a 1 minute 52 second video, compressed to 38 MB, uploaded to his profile, and BrightLocal's guide (updated October 2025) says it uploaded a 1 minute 30 second video but adds that this "may have been a fluke". BrightLocal also says the size limit was 100 MB until October 2020.

These are single tests, not a policy. A longer video may upload today and be rejected or removed later, and a 30-second video works everywhere. If you have a longer video, cut a 30-second version for your profile and post the full one on YouTube or your website.

How to add a video to your Business Profile

  1. Make the video fit: trim it to 30 seconds or less with the free video trimmer, and if it's over 75 MB, shrink it with the free video compressor (its Light setting keeps up to 1080p at about 23 MB a minute, so 30 seconds is roughly 12 MB). Both free, runs in your browser and never uploads your file.
  2. On a computer, open Google Search or Maps while signed in to the account that manages the profile, and search for your business's name and city.
  3. Click Photos, then Add photos, and select your video. You can add several at once.
  4. Wait up to 48 hours for the review. If it doesn't appear, check it's 30 seconds or under, under 75 MB, at least 720p, and doesn't break Google's content policies.

Google doesn't set an aspect ratio. If most of your customers find you on their phones, vertical or square video fills more of the screen; the free video resizer turns a horizontal clip into 9:16 or 1:1 with a blurred background instead of cropping.

Google Business Profile video verification requirements

Video verification is how Google checks that your business is real, and its rules are different from the upload rules above. Google's help page says the recording must be:

  • Captured live: pre-recorded videos aren't allowed.
  • One unedited, unique and complete recording with no breaks.
  • At least 30 seconds long.
  • Recorded and uploaded from your phone, through your Business Profile.
  • Free of bank, tax or ID numbers, other private information and other people's faces.

What to show depends on the kind of business:

What Google wants to seeStorefront or hybrid businessService-area business
LocationStreet signs, building numbers, nearby businesses or familiar placesStreet signs, nearby landmarks or other identifiers at your address (not empty land)
Proof the business existsStorefront, showroom or signage with the business name on a permanent fixture, matching your profileThe professional tools, equipment or products you use for work
Proof you manage itStaff-only areas or equipment, such as a cash register or point-of-sale systemYou doing a service, opening a branded van, or a permit, invoice or utility bill in the profile's name

Plan the route before you press record, since you can't cut anything out: start on the street sign, walk to the sign with your business name, then go inside to the till or open the van. Review takes up to 5 business days. If it's rejected, Review issues lists what was missing (for example, "No nearby area shown"), and Google asks you to record a new video that includes everything from the first one plus the missing items.

Video ideas for a local business profile

Thirty seconds is enough for one clear idea, and a 1080p clip that length usually fits under 75 MB; if it doesn't, compress it or trim it first. For the same clip on other platforms, see the best video length for each platform. Ideas that suit a profile, where people are deciding whether to visit or call:

  • The walk-in: from the street to your front desk, so first-time visitors recognise the entrance and parking.
  • One job, before and after: a cleaned carpet, a repaired bumper, a finished haircut.
  • Meet the owner: who you are, what you do and the area you serve, in three sentences.
  • The best seller: your most-ordered dish or product, made or unboxed.
  • How a visit works: book, arrive, what happens, how long it takes.
  • Answer a common question: pricing basics, how long a repair takes, whether you take walk-ins.
  • Seasonal news: a new menu, holiday hours or this month's offer.

Film in good light, keep the phone steady and make sure the first two seconds show something worth stopping for. For more, see 20 AI video ideas for small businesses. If the video has someone talking, add captions so it works with the sound off; QuickVeed's auto subtitles cost 1.5 credits a minute to transcribe and can burn the captions in.

Up to 30 seconds, per Google's Business Profile help centre. Some third-party tests got longer videos to upload, but 30 seconds is the official limit.

What is the max file size for a Google Business Profile video?

75 MB. BrightLocal reports it was 100 MB until October 2020.

What resolution should a Google Business Profile video be?

720p or higher. Exporting at 1080p keeps you safely above the minimum and usually under 75 MB for 30 seconds.
