The best Sora alternatives in October 2026 are Google Veo 3.1 for short clips with dialogue, Kling 3.0 for 15-second multi-shot scenes, Seedance 2.0 for reference-guided clips, Runway Gen-4.5 for realistic silent footage, and Adobe Firefly or QuickVeed for several models on one plan. OpenAI closed the Sora app in April 2026 and its API in September.
If you made product clips, ads or social videos in Sora, the good news is that the models that replaced it are, for most business jobs, at least as capable. The harder part is choosing, because each is strongest at something different. This guide covers what happened to Sora, how the six main options compare, and how to move a Sora workflow across.
Key takeaways
- OpenAI's help page gives two dates: the Sora web and app experience ended on April 26, 2026, and the Sora API on September 24, 2026.
- Veo 3.1 is the closest like-for-like replacement for Sora 2's short clips with synchronized speech and sound.
- Kling 3.0 and Seedance 2.0 make longer clips (up to 15 seconds) with sound; Runway Gen-4.5 is picture-first.
- Google's Gemini API lists Veo 3.1 at $0.40 a second at 720p or 1080p, with no free tier.
- A multi-model tool lets you run one prompt through several models and keep the best result, which is the easiest way to replace a single favourite model.
Disclosure: we make QuickVeed, one of the tools on this list. Every other product's details come from its public pages or published reviews, checked in October 2026 and linked at the end. We include each tool's real strengths, and say who it suits better than us.
How we compared them
We looked for tools a Sora user can move to today: generators that turn a text prompt or an image into a short clip, ideally with sound, and that are available outside China. For each we read the maker's own documentation and pricing page in October 2026. Prices are quoted only where the official page lists them; otherwise we say to check current pricing.
We also asked what people actually used Sora for: short social clips, product shots, B-roll for ads, and scenes with someone speaking. The “best for” line on each tool reflects those jobs, not a benchmark score.

What happened to Sora, and six alternatives
OpenAI's help article on the Sora discontinuation sets out a two-stage shutdown: the Sora web and app experience ended on April 26, 2026, and the Sora API on September 24, 2026. It advised users to download their videos and images from their Sora library before those dates, said it had not decided whether a final export window would follow, and said user data is permanently deleted once the deadlines pass. If you still have Sora clips you need, check your email for any export notice from OpenAI. The tools below are what most Sora users moved to.
1. Google Veo 3.1
Best for: short, polished clips where someone speaks or the sound matters
Price: Google's Gemini API lists Veo 3.1 at $0.40 a second at 720p or 1080p ($0.60 at 4K), Veo 3.1 Fast at $0.10 to $0.12 and Veo 3.1 Lite at $0.05 to $0.08, with no free tier. In the Gemini app and Flow it comes with a Google AI plan; check current pricing.
Veo 3.1 is Google DeepMind's video model and the nearest match to what people liked about Sora 2: clips that come with synchronized dialogue, sound effects and ambience generated in the same pass. Google's documentation lists clips of 4, 6 or 8 seconds in 16:9 or 9:16, at 720p, 1080p or 4K, and features such as a first and last frame, reference images and extending a clip.
You can use it in Google's own apps (the Gemini app and Flow), through the Gemini API and Vertex AI, or in third-party tools. For the full story, see our guide to what Google Veo 3 is.
Where it shines: Speech and sound that line up with the picture, strong prompt following, and up to 4K through Google's API.
Watch out for: Clips top out at 8 seconds, and the full model is one of the most expensive per second. Draft on Veo 3.1 Fast or Lite first.
2. Kling 3.0
Best for: 10 to 15 second scenes, multi-shot sequences and consistent characters
Price: Credit plans on kling.ai, including a free tier with a small allowance; check current pricing.
Kling is Kuaishou's video generator. Its 3.0 series, launched in February 2026, makes clips of 3 to 15 seconds at 720p or 1080p with native audio, and can put several camera shots into one generation. Kling's user guide also describes reusable elements that keep a character or product consistent across clips.
For Sora users who were stitching together several short generations, Kling's longer clips and multi-shot prompts can replace that work. More in what Kling AI is and Veo 3 vs Kling.
Where it shines: Long clips with sound, multi-shot storytelling and character consistency.
Watch out for: Credit costs climb quickly at 1080p with audio, and plan terms change often, so check the membership page before committing.
3. Seedance 2.0 (ByteDance)
Best for: clips that follow your own reference images, a reference clip's motion or an audio track
Price: Included with paid CapCut plans in supported countries, and on ByteDance's BytePlus API; check current pricing.
Seedance 2.0 comes from ByteDance's Seed team. It generates video and sound together in clips of 4 to 15 seconds, and stands out for taking several kinds of reference at once: images for the look, a video clip for the motion and an audio clip for rhythm or voice.
CapCut's announcement lists the safeguards in its apps: a visible watermark and C2PA Content Credentials on output, and, in the first rollout, no generation from images that contain real faces. Plan product and brand work around that. Our guide to what Seedance 2.0 is covers prompting.
Where it shines: Mixing several references in one generation, and 15-second clips with sound.
Watch out for: Native output is 480p or 720p, and availability depends on your country and CapCut plan.
4. Runway Gen-4.5
Best for: realistic, silent B-roll and product footage you'll score and voice yourself
Price: Runway's pricing page lists Free (125 one-time credits), Standard $15/month ($12 billed yearly, 625 credits), Pro $35 ($28, 2,250 credits) and Max $95 ($76, 9,500 credits). Gen-4.5 is listed on the paid plans.
Runway's Gen-4.5 is a picture-first model known for realistic motion and physics. Runway's help page describes 5 or 10 second generations at 720p in several aspect ratios. Sound is added afterwards with Runway's separate audio tools or in your editor.
If you used Sora mainly for silent atmosphere shots and cutaways, Runway is a natural home, and its app adds editing tools around the model. See Runway Gen-4.5 vs Veo 3.1 for a direct comparison.
Where it shines: Natural motion, wide choice of shapes and a full creative app around the model.
Watch out for: No native audio from the model, and 720p native output.
5. Adobe Firefly
Best for: teams already in Adobe's apps who want Adobe's own video model plus partner models
Price: Adobe's plans page lists free daily generations, then Firefly Standard $9.99/month, Pro $19.99, Pro Plus $49.99 and Premium $199.99 (first-year promotions run on some tiers).
Firefly includes Adobe's own Firefly Video Model and a set of partner models; the plans page names Runway, Kling, Luma and Topaz, and lists Kling 3.0 and Veo 3.1 Fast among its video options. Free users get daily generations that refresh every day.
It suits designers and marketers who will finish the clip in Premiere Pro or Adobe Express anyway.
Where it shines: A free daily allowance, Adobe's commercial-use positioning for its own model, and a path into Adobe's editors.
Watch out for: Which partner models and how many generations you get depends on the plan, and the page is not always clear about it.
6. QuickVeed
Best for: businesses that want to try several models on the same brief from one balance, then caption and post the result
Price: Starter $18/month (1,000 credits), Boost $42 (2,500), Scale $114 (6,000); a 14-day trial with 75 credits, no card needed.
QuickVeed is our product. Its AI video generator runs more than 15 models, including Veo 3.1 and 3.1 Fast, Kling v3 and v3 Omni, Seedance 2.0, 2.0 Fast and 1.5 Pro, Runway Gen-4.5, Luma Ray 3.2, MiniMax Hailuo 2.3, Vidu Q3, PixVerse v5.6 and Wan. Clips run 2 to 15 seconds depending on the model, nine models generate sound, and the credit price is shown before you generate.
Around the generator are the jobs that come next: auto subtitles in 32 languages, AI avatars for talking presenters and UGC video ads from a product photo.
Where it shines: One prompt across many models, prices shown upfront, failed generations refunded.
Watch out for: You start from a prompt or one image; for Seedance's full multi-reference input or Veo's 4K, use the maker's own tools. QuickVeed is new and has no independent reviews yet.
How to choose
- You need someone to speak on camera in a short clip: Veo 3.1. For a talking presenter longer than a few seconds, an avatar tool is cheaper; see AI spokesperson videos.
- You need a 10 to 15 second scene without cuts: Kling 3.0 or Seedance 2.0.
- You have product photos and a look to match: Seedance 2.0 for several references, or any model's image-to-video mode for one; see image to video AI.
- You want silent, realistic B-roll: Runway Gen-4.5, or a cheaper model for drafts; see AI B-roll.
- You can't decide: run the same prompt through two or three models in a multi-model tool and compare. Draft short and cheap, then render the winner on a premium model.
- Moving a Sora prompt: keep the subject, action, camera and light, then add one sentence for sound. Sora prompts usually transfer well; the main change is clip length, so split long actions into separate shots.
Frequently asked questions
Is Sora shut down?
Yes. OpenAI's help page says the Sora web and app experience was discontinued on April 26, 2026, and the Sora API on September 24, 2026.
Can I still download my Sora videos?
OpenAI asked users to download their content from the Sora library before the deadlines and said it would email users if it offered a final export window. After the deadlines, it says user data is permanently deleted.
What is the closest alternative to Sora 2?
Google Veo 3.1 is the closest for short clips with synchronized dialogue and sound. Kling 3.0 and Seedance 2.0 are closer if you want longer clips.
Is there a free Sora alternative?
Adobe Firefly gives free daily generations, Runway has 125 one-time credits and Kling has a small free tier. Google's API lists no free tier for Veo. QuickVeed has a 14-day trial with 75 credits.
Which Sora alternative is best for business videos?
It depends on the job: Veo 3.1 for short spoken clips, Kling or Seedance for longer product scenes, Runway for silent B-roll. A multi-model tool lets you test each on the same brief.
Can I use my Sora prompts in other models?
Mostly, yes. Describe subject, action, camera, light and sound in the same order, and shorten the action to fit each model's clip length.
Try it with your own video
Run your old Sora prompt through Veo, Kling and Seedance side by side and keep the best take. Describe the video or paste your script, pick a voice, and judge the first draft for yourself.
