    In short

YouTube makes chapters from a list of timestamps and titles in the video description. The list must start with 00:00, have at least three timestamps in ascending order, and every chapter must be at least 10 seconds long (YouTube Help, checked October 2026). Paste your list here in any order or format, such as "Intro 0:00" or "[1:05] Setup", and the generator sorts it, writes one clean "00:00 Title" line per chapter and tells you which rule a chapter breaks.

    How it works

    3 steps, a few seconds

    1

    Paste your notes

One chapter per line, with a time like 1:05, 01:05 or 1:02:03 anywhere in the line.

    2

    Add the video length

Optional: it lets the tool check that the last chapter is 10 seconds or longer.

    3

    Copy the chapters

Fix anything flagged, then paste the list into your YouTube description.

    FAQ

Questions about the YouTube Chapter Timestamp Generator

How do I add chapters to a YouTube video?
Paste a list of timestamps and titles into the video's description in YouTube Studio and save. The first timestamp must be 00:00, and you need at least three in ascending order, each chapter at least 10 seconds long.
Why aren't my YouTube chapters showing?
Usually one rule is broken: the list doesn't start at 0:00, has fewer than three timestamps, isn't in ascending order, or has a chapter shorter than 10 seconds. The generator checks each of these and names the line that fails.
Does the first chapter have to be 0:00?
Yes. YouTube's help page says the first timestamp must start with 00:00. Tick Add a 0:00 chapter and the tool adds one called Intro (or a title you choose) if your list doesn't start there.
    Should I write 0:00 or 00:00?
YouTube's help page writes the first timestamp as 00:00, so the generator uses that two-digit style by default (MM:SS, or HH:MM:SS for videos over an hour) on every line. You can switch to short times such as 0:00 and 1:05 if you prefer them.
    Can YouTube make chapters automatically?
YouTube can add automatic chapters to some videos. Timestamps you add yourself in the description take priority over automatic ones.
Can QuickVeed find the chapter points for me?
Not in this free tool. QuickVeed's auto subtitles give you a timed transcript, which makes it quick to see where each topic starts.
