Check your YouTube title length, before you publish
Paste a title, description and tags to see each count against YouTube's limits, spot the < and > characters YouTube won't accept, and see roughly where a long title gets cut off.
Where YouTube cuts a title depends on the screen, font and page, so treat this as a guide. Put the key words first.
A YouTube title can be up to 100 characters and a description up to 5,000 characters (checked October 2026 on YouTube's help page). YouTube's Data API also limits descriptions to 5,000 bytes, so emoji and non-Latin text use up the limit faster, caps tags at 500 characters in total, and does not accept the < and > characters in titles or descriptions. Search results and the home feed show only the start of long titles, so put the important words first.
