Captions, the video app made by Mirage, costs $24.99 a month for Max and $69.99, $139.99 or $279.99 a month for Frontier, Frontier 2x and Frontier 4x, according to its pricing page on 1 November 2026. Its help centre also lists Basic at $9.99 a month (200 credits) and, on Android only, Lite at $4.99. There's a free plan with a one-time 60 to 200 credits.
The plan names changed recently: Captions' help centre says Basic was formerly called Pro, and Frontier (with its 2x and 4x tiers) was formerly Scale, with the same features and prices. Every figure here is from Captions' pricing page, its help centre and its US App Store listing. More breakdowns are in our video tool pricing and alternatives guides.
The short answer
Captions Max costs $24.99/month for 500 credits and unlocks AI Edit, Clips, chat editing and AI actors. Frontier costs $69.99 (1,400 credits), Frontier 2x $139.99 (2,800) and Frontier 4x $279.99 (5,600). Basic is $9.99 for 200 credits and manual tools like caption and dub. The free plan has 60 to 200 lifetime credits. Prices shown are iOS prices; yearly plans are discounted, and the App Store lists Basic yearly at $64.99.
Key takeaways
- Old names still float around: Pro is now Basic, and Scale is now Frontier.
- The website's pricing page shows Max, Frontier and Enterprise; Basic ($9.99) and Lite (Android, $4.99) appear only in the help centre and app stores.
- Credits pay for every AI feature; prompt-to-video uses 16 credits per 6 seconds, so Max's 500 credits make about 3 minutes.
- Unused credits roll over up to 3 times your monthly allowance, but you can't buy extra credits on standard plans.
- Using a Max-only feature on Basic adds a watermark to the export.
Disclosure: we make QuickVeed and show how to do this in it, along with other ways. Details about other products come from their public pages, checked in November 2026 and linked at the end.
How much does the Captions app cost?
From Captions' pricing page and help centre, checked 1 November 2026:
| Plan | Monthly price | Credits a month | Where it's listed | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 60 to 200, one time (don't refresh) | Help centre, pricing comparison | Basic manual edits and captions |
| Lite | $4.99 | Not stated | Help centre (Android only) | Manual editing on Android |
| Basic (was Pro) | $9.99 | 200 | Help centre, App Store | Captions, dubbing and manual AI tools |
| Max | $24.99 | 500 | Pricing page | AI Edit, Clips, AI actors and generation |
| Frontier (was Scale) | $69.99 | 1,400 | Pricing page | Heavier generation, top models |
| Frontier 2x | $139.99 | 2,800 | Pricing page | More videos a month |
| Frontier 4x | $279.99 | 5,600 | Pricing page | Highest volume; can buy top-ups |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Pricing page | Teams needing seats and contracts |
The pricing page notes that its prices are in US dollars and reflect iOS plans only, and the help centre adds that checkout may show your local currency at a different price. Lite works only in the Android app; to use Captions on iPhone or the web you need Basic, Max or Frontier.
Does Captions have a yearly plan?
Yes. Captions' FAQ says a yearly plan bills 12 months up front at a discounted rate, and its help centre says yearly subscriptions come with an automatic discount compared with 12 months of monthly billing. The website doesn't print yearly prices. Apple's US App Store lists Captions Basic yearly at $64.99 (about $5.42 a month, against $9.99 monthly) and Basic weekly at $5.99; the store's list didn't show yearly prices for Max or Frontier on 1 November 2026, so check the app's checkout.
What does each Captions plan include?
- Free: captions, camera, trim, zoom, sounds, media, voiceover, transitions and resize, with one caption template ('Eclipse') and no watermark on those features. Anything else asks you to upgrade.
- Basic ($9.99): project creation and exports without a watermark, Reddit to Video, script generator, camera and teleprompter, caption and dub, and AI tools such as eye contact, denoise, censor, zoom, voiceover, title card and trim. Rolls over unused credits.
- Max ($24.99): everything in Basic plus chat-based editing, AI Edit, Clips (long video to short clips), Mirage-generated AI actors, up to 30 AI twins, 2 generations at once, and the generative image, video, music and sound models.
- Frontier ($69.99 and up): everything in Max with about three times the usage, faster generation, the most advanced model tier, and the option to move to 2x or 4x when you hit the limit.
The help centre's watermark page is worth reading before you pick Basic: if a Basic project uses AI Edit, the Co-Editor, AI-generated images or videos, or (for newer accounts) AI Creator, the export gets a watermark. Remove those features or upgrade to Max.
How do Captions credits work?
Every generative feature draws on your credits. Captions' help centre lists these costs (actual costs vary with length and model):
| Feature | Credits |
|---|---|
| Prompt to video | 16 every 6 seconds (160 a minute) |
| AI Edit | 10 to 40 per edit |
| Chat-based editing | 2 per message, 1 per action, plus any generation |
| AI image | 1 to 6 depending on model (Nano Banana Pro 6) |
| AI video clip | 8 (Hailuo 2.3 Fast) to 140 (Kling 2.1); Veo 3.1 is 64 for 4 seconds |
| AI music | 2 to 10 |
| Audio isolation | 2 a minute |
At 160 credits a minute, prompt-to-video gives about 3 minutes a month on Max (500 credits) and about 8.75 minutes on Frontier (1,400), roughly $8 a minute either way. Captions says credits are used whether or not you export the project.
Unused credits roll over on Basic and above, with your balance capped at three times your monthly allowance. If you downgrade, the balance is cut to the new cap; if you cancel, credits expire at the end of the billing period. Individual top-ups aren't sold on standard plans: you upgrade instead. Only Frontier 4x and legacy Teams and Business customers can buy top-up credits.
How long can a video be for Clips?
Clips is on Max and up. Captions' help centre says it takes a file up to 3 hours and 10 GB, or a YouTube or other public video link, and returns a ranked batch of clips of about 30 seconds each, adjustable, reframed to vertical. The help centre doesn't give a credit cost for a Clips run.
Is Captions worth it?
For one person filming talking videos on a phone, Captions is strong: the camera, teleprompter, eye-contact correction and caption styles are built for that, and Basic at $9.99 covers it. Max is where the AI editing, Clips and AI actors live, so most comparisons should be Max at $24.99 against tools like Submagic ($39 for Pro). If you generate a lot of footage, the credit math decides it: 500 credits go quickly on generated video. Refunds depend on where you bought it: Apple and Google handle store purchases, and Captions says monthly plans bought on its website aren't refundable.
If you mainly need avatars rather than editing, compare HeyGen pricing and D-ID pricing.
Where QuickVeed fits
QuickVeed isn't a phone editor and has no timeline, camera app or caption-style picker of the kind Captions has. It covers several of the same jobs from a browser on one credit balance: auto subtitles for videos up to 3 hours in 32 languages (1.5 credits a minute), Podcast to Clips for up to 10 captioned vertical clips from a long recording, AI dubbing for videos up to 10 minutes with a stock voice in 32 languages or a cloned voice in 23 (no lip re-sync), and AI avatars for presenter clips up to 30 seconds.
Captions is ahead on mobile recording, AI editing of your own footage and lip-synced translation. QuickVeed is cheaper per minute for captions and translation. Cloned-voice dubbing runs on a third-party GPU model, so try it on a short clip before you plan a project around it; the stock-voice route doesn't depend on it. QuickVeed plans are $18 a month for 1,000 credits (Starter), $42 for 2,500 (Boost) and $114 for 6,000 (Scale), yearly billing costs 10 times the monthly price, and a new account gets a 14-day trial with 250 credits, no card needed. A credit works out to about 1.7 to 1.9 cents.
Frequently asked questions
How much is Captions per month?
Basic is $9.99, Max $24.99, Frontier $69.99, Frontier 2x $139.99 and Frontier 4x $279.99 a month (iOS prices in US dollars, checked 1 November 2026). Lite is $4.99 on Android.
What happened to Captions Pro and Scale?
They were renamed. Captions' help centre says Basic was formerly called Pro, and Frontier and its 2x and 4x tiers were formerly called Scale, with features and prices unchanged.
Is the Captions app free?
There's a free plan with 60 to 200 one-time credits, one caption template and basic tools (captions, trim, zoom, transitions, resize) exported without a watermark.
Do Captions credits roll over?
Yes, on Basic and above, up to three times your monthly allowance. They're forfeited if you cancel, and a downgrade cuts the balance to the new plan's cap.
Can I buy more credits in Captions?
Not on standard plans; you upgrade to the next plan. Top-ups are only for Frontier 4x and legacy Teams and Business customers.
Why does my Captions video have a watermark?
Usually because a Basic project used a Max-only feature such as AI Edit or AI-generated media. Remove it or upgrade to Max, per Captions' help centre.
Try it with your own video
Need captions, translations and short clips without a phone editor? Upload a video, caption it in two languages and cut a clip with the trial credits. QuickVeed plans start at $18/month, and new accounts get a 14-day trial with 250 credits, no card needed. Sign up or see pricing.
